This time i bring you with me in Portorož, a little sea village in the small but wonderful Slovenia.
I have got multiple times the occasion to travel through Slovenia with my family and see its wonderful landscapes and aperceive the cultural differences that there are from north to south also if people wouldn’t believe it exists in such a tiny nation. Slovenia isn’t a global known touristic land but offer more than what you can think and expect, you can find all what you wish for: mountains, valley, sea, lakes, warm and cold weather, palms and pine trees, isn’t that unbelievable?? 🙂
Well, it was unbelievable for me too before I saw it with my eyes!
Portorož and its own magic
Open a post with such a dreamy landscape picture is like scream to all the world “I miss the sea!!!”, yeah in facts is the truth, is a while I don’t have the chance to swim in the clear blue water of the Adriatic sea! 🙂
But apart this great paradise corner what else is Portorož?
Together with Piran (town next to it) are the most touristic and known areas of south Slovenia, and for good reasons are also the favourite holidays destinations from all the Slovenian people that want to enjoy the summer without move out from their land!
One of the main reasons of so much Tourismus in this area is due of the thermal waters and the cheap prices that thermes here have in rapport to all the rest of Europe – or as less the neighbour lands – and also due of the chance to have a wonderful holiday for a much cheaper price than in Croatia.
You would say “Impossible there is a big price difference between Croatia and Slovenia, is a couple kilometers far from it and is the exactly same sea!”. Yes is absolutely true, but the life costs in Slovenia as part of Euro are remain pretty low, Croatia as owner an own money system is become economically stronger and so also its life costs more higher than before.
Portorož in the years is always remain the same, the style of its architectures and the language they talk is still a mixture of the Venetian/Triestinian culture, pretty detached from the real radicated Slovenian traditions.
Luckily the weather is always pretty sunny, despite these few pictures done in a rainy cloudy winter day!
When you wish for a totally relaxful holiday in Salt caves, warm and healthy water pools and great eating, Portorož is the perfect place for you. Something that Slovenians can do pretty well like we Italians is love to eat and cook; reason why this town and Piran are the best places for eat fresh fished fish at few meters from the sea. Profiting of that I can advise you two hyper great restaurants where you will for sure have the best fish eating experience of your life: Ribja Kantina and Pavel‘s restaurant.
For people which don’t like fish I can advise to try Ćevapčići, a thypical slovenian food; kind of sausage spicy and tasty and as dessert the Palatschinken, something in which Slovenians are master in it.
Palatschinken is a kind of French crêpe accompanied with ice cream, jam or chocolate topping and fruit, perfect for finish the dinner with a special delicatesse.
This photo below can exactly express in words what I mean for sense of serenity; walk on a warm summer shiny day on the beach with the people you wish for next to you, looking this majestic blue wavy movement and the seagulls that fly free over it spreading their wings on the breeze that flow slowly like the time through your hands…
Simply the peace of senses!
Someone aldready know that when I travel, differently from other people I never bring home souvenirs representing buildings or t-shirts and so on but I always bring with me some flavours and smells of the land, to try, taste and have nostalgy of that great spended days…
The same I did also this time and I couldn’t not show you my little Portorož treasure!
I profited to make a short tour to DM as in Italy we don’t have and buy some throat candies and tea as in that time I was shortly ill, and so i profite also for show you my new dragonfruit-lime tea! Is a strange combination but that give a pretty sweet and intensive taste (sure the DM quality is not the best but I was too much curious for don’t try it!).
As already told, Portorož and Piran are well known for the Salt and its high quality. Here a picture of the expensive but excellent fleur de sel; perfect on precious meat parts as filet, but also good on ribs and fish.
In the same shop I boughted this handmade soap at calendula and other herbs, I was too much tempted for let it there! The smell is so adorable and it stays on the hands for pretty long time, everytime you use it, it reminds you the parfums of the land where it comes from. Advised 200%!!!
This was my multiple time vacation in the beautiful Portorož and Piran, a perfect way to spend relaxful days in a majestic place, eating good, wandering, swimming in thermes, discovering new thypical products and food, all that with a low cost budget!
A short advise i can give you before book is to search for offers on Groupon; you can find good hotel + thermes prices every year!
Now something that make me pretty curious to know is: how many of you followers have been in that great dreamy place? And what’s your votation?
